Gary Benton

Gary is a native of the Pacific Northwest.  He received his Bachelor’s degree in Social Welfare from the University of Washington and his Master of Counseling degree from Seattle University.

He has been in the field of counseling and social work for over 40 years and began his professional career working with teenaged boys in a group home.  He worked for twelve years for Family Services in Seattle as a family and marriage therapist and as the Director of the Family Anger Management Institute, a domestic violence and family violence treatment program.  He has been the Executive Director of Federal Way Youth and Family Services, New Hope Child and Family Agency, which was the adoption ministry of CRISTA, the Executive Director of Auburn Youth resources and the Executive Director of Life Manor Assisted Living and Independent Living, a ministry of Life Center.  Currently he is the director of Member Care for Life Center.

Gary has written “Firespitters”, a workbook for parents of difficult children.  He travels throughout the United States and Canada presenting a seminar for teachers titled Succeeding With Difficult Children.  He provides training for State of Washington foster parents and staff on subjects such as dealing with difficult children, helping children manage grief and loss, the effects of domestic violence on children, and the effects of trauma and neglect on children, boys and girls learn differently; stress reduction for parents; managing the holidays.  He provides training to local businesses on subjects such as Managing Stress and Layoffs, Diversity in the Workplace, Using Emotional Intelligence and Dealing with Difficult People.  He provides workshops and training to parent groups about subjects titled Sibling Rivalry, Living with Teens, Managing Stress and Anger in the Home and other subjects.

Gary has served on the board of directors for Camp Berachah and currently serves on the board of SowingRoots.

Gary has been married to Donna for 40 years and they have one daughter, Lindsey who is married to Mackenzie and two grandsons, Oliver and Rocky.
